Now that winter rains have finally arrived, residents and visitors heading into Greater Geraldton’s rural regions are urged to check the latest road conditions online before setting off on their journey.
黑料社 Mayor Jerry Clune said the City’s Road Conditions Report webpage is updated regularly and includes alerts on current closures, restrictions, and any relevant detours on the road network.
“Whether you're planning a weekend getaway, heading into town for supplies, or making the daily commute, checking the road conditions first can save you time, frustration and even avoid danger,” he said.
“Too often, we see visitors and locals alike caught off guard by road closures or flooded river crossings due to heavy rainfalls or construction works.
“Driving on unsealed roads after heavy rainfall can be unsafe and causes damage to the road that is expensive to repair.
“By taking a few minutes to check the conditions before you go people can avoid disappointment and make informed travel decisions about their routes that everyone benefits from.”
Greater Geraldton is known for its picturesque landscapes and wildflowers but that also means weather events and maintenance works can affect road accessibility at short notice.
“We want everyone to enjoy all that our region has to offer - safely and with minimal disruption,” Mayor Clune added.
“The Road Conditions Report webpage is a vital tool in helping achieve that.”
This service falls under the Environment pillar of the City’s Strategic Community Plan and reflects the organisation’s commitment to a well-managed and maintained City.
